Updated "A Monument to My Failures."

9-May-2007

The shitstorm of work comes in again. Don't expect "Opinion" to be begun any time soon. However, I do have enough time to write a different post.

Oh, and my submission was posted on the May Day 2007 page. I'm "Charlie P."

3-May-2007

I just finished my write-up of the May Day 2007 ad (which I started on 1-May) and submitted some clues to The May Day Mystery website.

Brief side-bar:

I had another evolution vs. creationism debate (my 2nd of the school year) yesterday. I don't really like the debates, because it's like trying to move a mountain with a wheelbarrow; no matter how much evidence you put in front of them, they will never budge. They'll just do the adult analog to covering your ears and yelling "LA LA LA LA!" which is: "I believe what I believe." Why people do this when confronted with truth astounds me.

I Return

I was grounded on the 26th of March, for one month. I was unable to update yesterday to do stuff. I've just gotten through a pretty stressful period, so a quick recap, then a preview.

Finished:

  • Baker Olympics Argumentitive Speech (2nd place)
  • Baker Olympics Geography Project (1st place)
  • Quiz Bowl State Tournament (poorly)
  • NYLC
  • English Project
  • Spanish Project
  • Make up homework/quizes/tests from NYLC week

Things I will do:

  • Re-fucking-lax
  • Play Company of Heroes
  • Update War and Pieces, and the WOT game
  • Write a new wargame I've had up my sleeve: Insecticide.
  • Write the stories I have pent up in here (*taps head*)
  • Write the following blog entries: "Vacation (or, How I Failed an Online Class)," "NYLC" (maybe, I don't even have it fully written up in my own journal), "Motivation and Action," and "What's the Deal with Blogs?".
  • Study for the AP exams

So, in a nut shell, now I have no excuse for not doing what I say I will beyond "I'm Lazy."

"Home Free"

Ha. Laughable. I'm going to tell you a long story, and then I'll probably never return. As a matter of fact, I'll wait until tomorrow to tell you. I'm too pissed off now.

Intercepted the Parcel. Home Free.

17-March-2007

The day of infamy. The day of freedom.

The class is up. All I have to do is not get caught not having done it. Well, that and study like hell for the World History AP Test. I'm currently updating some stuff on the Chucksphere, and this comming time will either be my most or least productive. We'll just wait and see.

I also made two updates to My Monument to Failure, one effective today, one tomorrow.

MEAP

Today was the last day of the "dreaded" MEAP test (now called the MME). Dreaded is quoted because that was perhaps the easiest examination I have ever had outside of Spanish Class. The degree of difficulty is such that anybody who plans on going to college can and will score well enough to get the $4000.

We also were forced to take the ACT, which I got a 33 on last time I took it. The reason for combining them perplexes me. For comparison, here are sample reading questons from both tests.

MME:
"Jane had a dog, which she took for walks every Tuesday and Thursday."

What did Jane have?
1. A rat
2. A bunny
3. A dog
4. A job

ACT:
"Jane had a dog, which she took for walks every Tuesday and Thursday."

     1. What did Jane have?
A. Doxen
B. Poodle
C. Great Dane
D. Job

     2. How would you describe the mood of this passage?
A. Playful, with a hint of grief
B. Informative, with overtones of loss
C. Informational and lighthearted
D. Dour and profound

I was so astounded at the simplicity of the questions, I thought that we might have been given the Elementary School MEAP/MME instead. (Easy mistake, as our principal used to be our elementary principal, and she treats us like children in other ways).

In short, the Michigan educational system sucks because they set the standards as low as they possibly can.
